In a nutshell, no, you are never too old for orthodontic treatment. When it comes to prescribing and designing your orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist considers many variables, but age is not a deciding factor. Uniform Teeth’s orthodontic treatment is as successful for adults as it is for adolescents and teens. In fact, one in three orthodontic patients is an adult.
Adult teeth can be aligned too No matter how old you are, whether 8 or 88, it takes the same physiological process to move teeth through bone. We are able to adjust and align teeth because they move in response to forces (clear aligners or braces) being placed on them over time. Although adults have denser bone tissue than someone who is 8 years old, many orthodontic issues can be corrected just as easily for adults as for children/teens.
Is adult treatment any different? The number one difference between adult treatment and children/teen treatment is that adults are no longer growing. Note: your bones stop growing around 17 to 25 years old on average. Due to the maturity and density of adult bones, treatment may take a slightly longer amount of time. With the natural progression of life—some adults may have fillings, missing teeth, misshapen or worn teeth, or other dental diseases that can affect treatment. Additionally, some medications, and habits like smoking, clenching or teeth grinding can also affect the outcome of orthodontic treatment. It is ideal that an adult who is interested in beginning treatment has optimal dental health. This is where we partner with general dentists and potentially call in other dental specialists (like oral surgeons, periodontists or endodontists) to make sure dental health is top-notch.
How does treatment work? At Uniform Teeth, we use clear aligners (and sometimes braces) to move teeth into their ideal positions. Our aligners are 3D printed and designed to deliver controlled movements that gently and predictably repositions teeth from the roots up. Thanks to our Uniform Lab Technology, treatment is more comfortable and less noticeable than ever.
How long is treatment? Depending upon case complexity our orthodontists are able to realign smiles in as little as six months. During the course of treatment, patients only have 3-5 in-person visits at a Uniform Teeth clinic and weekly check-ins via the Uniform Teeth App. The app allows patients to track their progress and keep in touch with their orthodontist without the hassle of monthly in-person appointments. The opportunity to achieve your smile goals and have a healthy, confident smile is not out of reach. Don’t spend the rest of your life hiding your smile––age doesn’t matter. At Uniform Teeth, we want to give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Start today by scheduling your free consultation!
